1ST CLAY LESSON!

Hello everybody! Today (4th August), the first clay lesson. I'm so excited to share with you what I've learnt today! Firstly Mr Will showed us some clay work done by some other students.

Then he taught us how to cut/slice the clay.

Then taught us how to knead the clay (to get rid of the air bubbles) and score the clay.

Application of the clay slit after scoring is also necessary.

All along, I thought that the thing used to fire the clay is called 'Oven' but it is called a 'Kiln'...my life was a lie!😂 I have also learnt the importance of scoring the clay if I want to join 2 pieces together so that they will be "locked" and not fall off. Not forgetting that I have to apply the clay slip after scoring and before combining the clay together.

We were told to make an imaginary clay creature, we all had to start of by making a hollow clay ball. Here are some pictures of me attempting.

scoring the clay

applying the clay slip

Do the same thing on both sides of the half ball. Then combine them together.

then I had to score the line too

then I used this thing to make the clay ball smooth

and this is the body of the creature I'm making
Sadly, I didn't manage to finish it because time was up. Then we just cleaned up the class and packed up.
hard working people...
That is all for today, thanks for reading and bye!

3rd PORTRAIT LESSON!

Hi again! This will be about my 3rd portrait lesson. So here is my finished portrait of Halsey.

I then used charcoal to shade the background.

....and here is the comparison of the picture and the drawing.

Now I have to draw her following Liu Ye's style. Here are some examples of her artworks.

I chose this as a reference for my idol picture. Liu Ye tends to draw the head and eyes bigger and the body, lips and nose smaller. These are my attempts of drawing Halsey following her style.

I don't really like it because I find it ugly...and we are going to paint that the next lesson!

Thank you for reading and see you in my next blog!😎

2nd PORTRAIT LESSON!

Hi everybody! On Tuesday was our 2nd portrait lesson. We had to choose an artist and use their style for the portrait later on. We were introduced to a few portrait artists from Thailand, China and Indonesia. I chose a China artist, Liu Ye.

We were told to chose a portrait picture of our idols and draw a realistic picture of them. I chose Halsey, she's 20, she's a singer and a songwriter and I love her music. She's my inspiration and she also has the same birthday as me! This is Halsey.

We were given about an hour and surprisingly, the class manage to finish the drawing. I think we have improved from our first lesson! After that we had a sharing session as usual.

I think all of the drawings looks like a legit face. Then we were given homework to finish up the portrait and draw another portrait of the same idol but this time, following the chosen artist's style. That's all for the 2nd portrait lesson and I will show you the finished homework on my next blog.

Thanks for reading and see you in my next blog post!😊
