3rd PORTRAIT LESSON!

Hi again! This will be about my 3rd portrait lesson. So here is my finished portrait of Halsey.

I then used charcoal to shade the background.

....and here is the comparison of the picture and the drawing.

Now I have to draw her following Liu Ye's style. Here are some examples of her artworks.

I chose this as a reference for my idol picture. Liu Ye tends to draw the head and eyes bigger and the body, lips and nose smaller. These are my attempts of drawing Halsey following her style.

I don't really like it because I find it ugly...and we are going to paint that the next lesson!

Thank you for reading and see you in my next blog!😎

2nd PORTRAIT LESSON!

Hi everybody! On Tuesday was our 2nd portrait lesson. We had to choose an artist and use their style for the portrait later on. We were introduced to a few portrait artists from Thailand, China and Indonesia. I chose a China artist, Liu Ye.

We were told to chose a portrait picture of our idols and draw a realistic picture of them. I chose Halsey, she's 20, she's a singer and a songwriter and I love her music. She's my inspiration and she also has the same birthday as me! This is Halsey.

We were given about an hour and surprisingly, the class manage to finish the drawing. I think we have improved from our first lesson! After that we had a sharing session as usual.

I think all of the drawings looks like a legit face. Then we were given homework to finish up the portrait and draw another portrait of the same idol but this time, following the chosen artist's style. That's all for the 2nd portrait lesson and I will show you the finished homework on my next blog.

Thanks for reading and see you in my next blog post!😊

Getting To Know The Color Wheel

Hi everybody! Today I am going to share about what I have learnt on Wednesday's (8/7/15) art lesson.

 I learnt about color wheel. What is it? It is basically a circle divided into sectors with primary and secondary colors showing the relationship between colors. I have also learnt what primary and secondary colors are. Examples of primary colors are red, blue and yellow while the secondary colors are purple, green and orange. The mixture of two primary colors makes a secondary colors. We were told to trace out a circle, then we had to divide it into 12 equal sections. We painted the 1st, 5th and 9th sections with primary colors and in between them, we painted the secondary colors. Here's a picture of the color wheel I did;

It may seem easy but I took a bit time to get the color mixtures right. The color between red and blue is purple and we need 50% from each from red and blue to get the correct color. For the red-ish purple, I add more red to it and for the more blue-purple, I add more blue to the color mixture. Same goes for all the rest of the colors. The difficulties I faced painting this color wheel was that sometimes I did not put the correct amount of paint and the colors seemed too close or looked the same and I had to keep trying to add more colors to make the color right. I even had to redo my color wheel because my colors got messed up. Now I will show you some pictures of the process while painting the color wheel.

That was all for Wednesday's lesson. I hope you enjoyed it and thank you for reading!

1ST PORTRAIT LESSON!

Hello everybody, this is my first ever post and I'm really excited to share with you all my experiences on the portrait lesson I had in school! I love drawing portraits and most of my artworks I've done at home are portraits of people. Here are some pictures of my drawings...

When I drew all these portraits, I was not using the proper techniques of drawing a face so I had to do a lot of erasing. I was really excited for the portrait lesson to start because I wanted to learn the correct ways of drawing a face!

First, our teacher gave us a picture of a model each (I'm not sure who the model is but teacher named her "Hannah") Then we were asked to draw Hannah out using our own ways of drawing without tracing or drawing only half face first. If I remember correctly, we were given around 20 mins to draw just the face and that was a really short time for me to draw. I was in a bit of a rush and also, I wasn't using the proper technique of drawing the face features so it was really difficult and ugly. Then, we had a class sharing as usual when my teacher would put all our artworks together and compare them. We had a lot of fun laughing at our own and one another's drawings but we learnt from one another's mistakes. Our teacher pointed out our mistakes and taught us the correct way then we were asked to take home and do another drawing of Hannah on the other side but this time with the correct techniques.

we were also given this 12 steps on drawing a face for reference
Now I am going to show you the comparison of my 1st attempt and 2nd attempt on drawing "Hannah"
1st attempt (left) VS 2nd attempt (right)

The mouth was still to opened so I touched up afterwards

actual pic VS 2nd attempt

Final comparison
You can tell that there is a huge difference when I draw it my own way compared to drawing with the proper techniques. I feel that it was much faster, easier and lesser erasing and a little more accurate when I draw it with the proper techniques! I still have to improve on drawing the hair.

I honestly really really enjoyed this portrait lesson. I am looking forward for the coming weeks art lessons too! (well, I'm always looking forward for art lessons)

Thank you so much for reading!
